I want a camera for personal use that can be with me all the time. G12 sized but with an APS-C sensor. I don't care about megapixels, LCD flip out screens, portrait modes, anti-shake tech, movie feature, multiple AF points, or even a zoom lens.

I just want to press the shutter button and expect the camera to take the picture. Is that to much to ask? Give me manual controls, one center AF point, and I'll do the rest. The Fujifilm FinePix X100 appears to have all of this. If the shutter lag (auto focus AF speed) is quick I'll buy two of them.

Anyone else feel the way I do? I know of no technological barrier to making this camera. The first company to do so gets my money. Let's hope it is Canon.

Yes, a rebel would be great tech wise, but it needs to be smaller, a prime pancake lens or a collapsible zoom. Small like the G12. A Rebel with the Canon 35f2 is still too big a camera for my intended use.

Just look at that brown ostrich leather trim! $17500 is a mere pittance to pay for such an elegant piece of mechanical wonderment as this!

We have a Lumix that, at the time 3 years ago, was well rated for better lag. Here's a list that looks rather current:

My assumption is entry level dslr, Micro 4/3 or Sony Nex.

that Leica looks pretty sweet, and seeing as it's delivered by some professional photographer who will hold your hand and teach you how to use it AND include all the software, it's really not all that out of this world to fathom someone paying for it... if you've got lots of money.

Look into the Sony mirror-less SLR cameras - they have a tiny little pancake lens you can get, when it's all said and done, it's about the same size as the G11, but a lot better and 7FPS and pretty quick operation. Throwing even a slow, crappy zoom makes the size too stupid to considering buying, but if you've got primes in mind, this could be a winner!
