The Ironman ATV Grand National Cross-Country race usually runs in a sea of mud. This year, a Midwest drought turned the course, which runs through woods and across cornfields, into a demanding dust bowl.

Nice. Mostly centered which is not the best way to do these kinds of shots, you could try giving the subject some place to go or showing where the subject has been.

Thanks. The images are displayed as they came out of the camera, resized to forum limits, with the first one coming from a slightly late reaction to an ATV that was out of control and jumped the berm.

This was the dustiest event that people around the Ironman can remember. There was a constant haze of dust in the air, and you had to wait for it to clear between bikes to have a fighting chance to get a clear shot. The T2i, which has a black body, was brown after an hour's shooting and needed to be wiped off in order to be able to remove the lens and keep dirt out. The camera's going to need a sensor cleaning, but enduring the dust and dirt was worth the chance of getting some intense images. Sometimes, the best pictures come from the worst conditions.

Really good series!

It was good to have a variety of turns and straights within walking distance on this cross-country course. Those factors made it easier to come up with several decent images that came from different angles and locations.

This GNCC (external link) race was run through the woods and across the farm fields about one mile south of Crawfordsville, Ind. (external link) It cost US $15 to get in for two days, and had nearly unlimited access to the race course.
