My G11 lately is having some issues.

There are times when I turn it on and it appears operational, except there is nothing showing on the screen in terms of live view or the shot I take...its as if there is a lens cap on.

Sometimes my G11 will be way over exposed...as if I have ISO at highest setting, but its either on Auto or 100 (turning on and off will correct it)

Sometimes it will take the shot, but the image captured is only showing every other line.

This all started happening yesterday. I take care of my camera and after having it for 6 months this started happening.

Anyone else have this or heard of this?

Here are some shots. Keep in mind, these are all at the same setting. To eventually get my shot, I had to power off several times.

best of luck

Thanks....I did buy an extended warranty, so I am covered...I will report back when I call the warranty company. I am curious if they will replace the camera or sensor. If the former, will it be a G11 or will they give me the G12 ???

I called Best Buy after 6 days of dropping it off and they said that the repair has been approved and is being shipped to the repair shop...not sure what all that means. I am still hoping they decide to replace instead of repair as I am concerned that the repair may not last very long...a replacement most likely would mean getting a G12 as the replacement and that would be awesome!

Either way, I just miss my camera and want something back, fixed or replaced, especially with last night being Halloween!

Best Buy called me back today and said that they are unable to repair and that I have been authorized for an exchange on my G11. But Best Buy no longer carries the G11, so I was able to exchange for a G12, no additional cost and my extended warranty fully transferred! :D

However, before I headed home, I opened the box in the car and proceeded to check everything out on my new G12 when I found a large deep scratch on the lens barrel. I headed right back into the store and exchanged for another as I didnt want to take any chances.

The G11 was my first camera from Canon. I am not sure how I feel about Canon and quality at this point as I have gone through 3 separate returns (my first G11 had dead pixels in the image, the 2nd G11 processor failed, my first G12 had a scratch on the lens barrel)

So for now I am happy with the G12 in my hand and I will know how I really feel after using it several times.

They say bad things happen in threes. As you have a G12 you have come up trumps and I bet you're gonna love your new camera. All's well that ends well.

BTW I just got my new G12 this week ...

Damn! I might be starting another thread same title but for my G12. I cant believe this!

My new G12, in use for 1 event (12 pics at my sons Orchestra recital) and now the lens lid wont completely close and the camera shuts down with an error as it recognizes that it didnt completely close (or cover the lens).

Another trip back to Best Buy. Am I that unlucky? Or is Canon quality questionable? At this point Best Buy is probably going to think I am abusing the equipment and its just not true!

There have been threads before about BB reselling cameras that have been returned. It might have more to say about Best Buy than it does Canon.

Forget BB , call Canon Tech dept. and tell them your tale . I've heard some screwy deals happening through BB and I wouldn't trust them . The 1st G12 you got and returned had scratches and right there I would have wondered about that being a customer returned (used) camera so chances are the one you have now may be too .

Canon would be wise to discontinue selling through BB and stick with camera stores . Poor customer service can make any product look bad .

Kez I dont live Stateside so know nothing of BB but if your experience was typical we should be in no doubt. Contacting Canon is a good suggestion. Keep us informed, won't you?

Good luck!

Well, I sure dont know what to say...I loved my G11, love my G12. However, I am not feeling love from Canon....my G12 now wont power on. I used it today, no issues, brought it home, downloaded the images from the card, loaded the card back into the camera and it wont power on.

I tried a different battery...same thing.

This was a brand new G12 and I have had it for a couple of months now! WTF!

For the record, I take very good care of my equipment...I dont have money to throw around and I research the **** out the products I buy so I know my hard earned $$$'s are well spent.

Does anyone know if there is a reset mechanism on the G12?
