i guess it was bound to happen... family member will notice... that i am loving photography... but...

mother: Albert, we're getting together tomorrow for family portraits... your family, brother's family, other brother's family...

me: but mAaaaa, i like to take pics of birds...

mother:
nonsense... you can take pics of birds, you can take pics of people...

me: um... ma, um... why don't we hire someone...

mother: no dear, you're taking the pic dear...

me: /facepalm...

get the drift?

hahaha...

looking for some quick tips...
indoors, pretty ok lighting...
most likely brick background...

got myself a 7D, 35L, 24-105L and/or toki 12-24

got me a tripod and 580EX II and a 430 EX II...

some access to 3 whiteboards (for some reason, i feel that this may be needed for "bouncing"?)

some shop clamps and probably some vertical stands here and there... and even a second tripod...

help?...

thanks in advance...

What can you shoot and how well? I would put that info down in case people may not know. My experience in this is very limited but I figured I could at least ask you my question :)

Dont sweat it. If its indoors with low ceilings you have no problems with lighting.

Use your 24-105 but try to stay away from the wide angle end to reduce barrel distortion.

practice with the 7d's IR trigger system. OR simply use the 580EXII on shoe to control the 430exii. Not sure the extent of knowledge on bouncing flash on your part. If the room is small you can use the flash on shoe as a main light and literally bounce the 430exii flash against a wall for fill. It'll get the job done and unlikely a family member will critique.

What normal family wouldn't have someone who would critique?

Looks pretty good. A little PP will make it look good. I love the different expressions on the kids.

With a little PP it can be a great pic. Here is what it looks like with a some clean up with levels and some layer magic.

Very nice! A little more time on the image and you'd never guess the original.
