Hi, everyone.
Right, so my quastion is: I use to use Canon 450D with 20mm lens (love the way lens distort the pic when you shoot a portrait and also love that this lens makes the picture look like photographer was shootting from high above even though I was standing right nxt to a lying down model).
Well, now I am using different format camera (Canon 5D Mk2) and the saim lens does distort image to much but I want the saim effect as use to get with 450D.
Any idea what lens will match my new format camera?

Thank you

Well you switched to full frame. So that 20mm on your cropped was actually bigger. But now that you're on ff its actually a 20mm. I would think that now you have to go lower than 20mm to get that distortion effect.

20 X 1.6 =32mm...so probably look for a 35mm lens focal length

35mm...? isn't it macro lens? if i am not mistaken and it is macro lens, the problem i'll have will be focus... 20mm let me take all body in focus (standin 1 meter away from model) and if i am thinking right, with 35mm from 1meter distance i'll have no choise but to choose what i wanna have in focus? The result won't be the saim, suppose...
Is that all I can go for or there is any other choise of lens?

What you liked about your 20 mm on 450D was the perspective. Your 20 mm on 450D has a field of view equivalent to a 32 mm lens on a 5DII. That means whether you use the 20+450D or 32+5DII, you can take a shot at the same distance and thereby get a similar effect.

Canon doesn't have a 32 mm lens and as DreDaze said, a 35 mm lens would be your closest bet.

None of Canon 35 mm lenses are macro. Even if they were, it shouldn't matter here. As far as capturing the whole subject goes, you need to use a depth of field calculator and punch in the camera type, distance and your intended aperture to find whether you can achieve a DOF great enough. My guess is that if you were happy with 20+450D, it should be more or less the same with 35+5DII.

I am sorry, i was mistaken abt the canon 35mm - it's not a macro lens :) Will go for it, now the quastion is 1.4 or 1.2 :)

None of the canon 35mm lenses are macro, but that shouldn't matter. A macro lens will work like any other, just has the ability to focus closer.

You didn't mention anything about a budget, but I guess it can go anywhere from the Canon 35mm f/2 to the Canon 35mm f/1.4 L.
You could also consider 24-70 / 24-105 or a cheaper 2.8 zoom like the Tamron 28-75 which is very good allround.
Keep in mind that at the same aperture a full frame camera like the 5D2 will have much less depth of field than a 1.6 crop like the 450D. For the same DoF (getting head to feet in focus), you'll need to stop down around 2 stops more (5.6 if you shot your 20mm at 2.8 ), which will need more light, longer shutterspeeds or a higher ISO.

Some of my lenses focus beyond infinity...!

Canon currently has two 35 mm primes - f/1.4 and f/2. You can do a little bit of reading to see which one suits your situation better. Try this link for a start:

If the budget is not limited, the 35L (f/1.4) would be an excellent match for your 5DII. It has a legion of fans. You can try sample pictures here on POTN:
