concert, Rome

Hi, these are pics of my first attempts at shooting a concert. Please give me some feedback. I used the camera below with the 70-200mm lens, with speedlite attached. The lighting was very bad, they aren't a very rich band thanks K www.tinoproductions.bl​ogspot.com

I reckon' you got some pretty good shots there despite there seeming to be not a lot of action happening. Your exposures look very good, sharpness and framing look cool also, I'd be fairly happy with these.

I think the lens did most of the work?!
I think they are going to go on the bands website, i just had them call me up and say they are the best photos theu have! its an honour for an amatur like me to hear this!

That's very good K, feels good when you see your work up in lights......thanks for the comments on the site, I'm preparing a major update!

Nice shots & congrats on getting the stamp of approval from the band

Something you might want to consider next time you shoot a band is using a 50mm 1.8 (the lens that should be in everyone's armoury) or a 1.4 if your budget will stretch that far. The extra stop(s) I think help out no end

WOW, very atmosperic!! There is such clarity as well, the extra stops must have been a great help.WEll done to whoever took em!
Im planning to get one of the two, its either the 1.4 alone, or the 1.8 and the 24-70mm f2.8 sigma. The only problem i have with the 50mm is that you need to be quite close, which sometimes is not possible, esp in concert situations.
I deffo need some more glass, im tired of my 'kit' lens for the short end!

Kalmo, I would recommend the Canon 85mm 1.8. That is my next purchase as I have found that the EF 135mm 2L is a little too long and the 50mm on my Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 a little too short. Thus, 85mm 1.8 gives me fast speed with what should be the right solution for the weaknesses for the 50mm and 135mm shooting ranges.

Yeah, she's a very good photographer alright, some of her portrait work is outstanding too. Her advice is always worth listening to

The 1.8 is such a great lens for the money (& has a good resale value as well) that if I were you'd, I get it & the other lens you have your eye on & save up for the 1.4. Just me....
