Curious what format everyone on this forum uses to edit photos? Much of the software is the same but what systems are you using? Be specific, iMac, Dell Studio... Etc.

Current I'm running a Dell Studio 15. Upgraded screen to a high res LED and also attached to a 24" Dell Monitor for bigger tasks.

i7 MBP 8GB & 2x2.8GHz Mac Pro 16GB, OS X 10.6, Aperture 3, PSCS5 and plugins for both. Also us PC due to work requiring Premire, AE and plugins I don't want to have to buy for myself. PC runs Windows 7 64bit on 8GB & Q9650. Work is moving to all Mac's in the media dept. so PC might actually go away :)

2.66 Nehalem Mac Pro, 8GB RAM, and GTX 260. Right now it's hooked up to a 23" Cinema, but I've been looking at some HP and NEC monitors... Running OS X 10.6 and 7 Pro 64-bit.

2.5 yrs old PC - Quad Core Q6600 with 4GB, Vista and a crappy graphics card - soon to be replaced.

I am debating going down the MAC route but dislike all-in-one systems and find the MAC Pro excessively expensive.

Every time I see the Mac's though I have to admit to myself that they do look sexy.

Why do most of you run Mac? Do you find it's more efficient to edit? Screen quality?

I preferred the OS over windows long time ago (OS 8 or so)
Been using Mac keyboard shortcuts for years.
I like OSX
I own software for OSX.

Switching to PC would be expensive, cumbersome, and add a new learning curve I don't need or want.

For me, it has nothing to do with quality, and all with UI.

Drawback is that my Mac needs an upgrade (PPC Dual G5) and there's no "mid range" desktop Mac.

So it's either an iMac (which has it's limitations for expandability), a Hackintosh (which has its drawbacks in ease (software updates, service)) or a Mac Pro ($$$)

My old AMD x64 dual core with WinXP was choking on my new 7D files so I just switched to an iMac after a career using and maintaining PCs. It was just time for a change and the OS intrigued me. I've had my iMac i7 for a month now and love it. I did have to buy the CS5 upgrade to install so it added $200 to the cost. I lost my Focus Magic package (no Mac equivalent), and haven't decided on a need for Neat Image yet so my software costs were minimal.

Now if I could find a decent personal finances application for the Mac I'd be very pleased.
