I know friends with desktop macs use an extra monitor while editing.

Am I able to do this with an imac ?

If I had a macbook, could I use thus as an external monitor or can this only be done with desktops?

Excuse my ignorance

All current Macs can drive second displays.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.
