Hi All,

My farther wants to swap his Canon EOS 450D for My Canon EOS 40D
is this camera better than the 40D and
will i be doing the right thing by exchanging.

His 450D is 10 months old, mine is 22 months.

From what I know, the 40d is a far better camera, I may be wrong but I'm sure it is.

Umm, no! The 40D is the better camera. The 450D has 2 more megapixels, but that is hardly noticeable. When the 40D was new it was $1400, 450D was $800. 450D is only 6months newer then the 40D, so not much new on it.

I hope your father isn't trying to rip you off.

I would keep the 40D without doubt!

You could get more for the 40D than the 450D.

In terms of pure image quality, the Xsi is better. It's more compact too.

BUT in terms of "performance", the 40D is better. More FPS, better AF, more controls (big wheel and joystick!) bigger raw buffer (17 vs. 3?)...Oh, and if you like shallow DOF in bright light, the 40D can go to 1/8000s vs. 1/4000s. Sync speed is 1/250s for the 40D and 1/200s for the Xsi, although I've never found 1/200s limiting in my shooting.

That said, I shoot both on a regular basis and I actually find myself using my Xsi MORE on family outings as it's lighter/smaller and the IQ is better. I'm not shooting sports or anything fast paced though.

You will get more for your 40D when selling, if you have the funds that you dont need to worry about it too much, then fine why not swap with him so he has a better one, but if cash is an issue sell the 40D

Hey, if you can afford it, why not make your old man that bit happier? :)

I mean, he's probably sacrificed quite a bit for his kids. Wouldn't hurt to reimburse him. :)

I'd probably let my dad have it as well. He'd have a better camera that he likes and he is giving you the other. You might lose a little money, but it is family.... JMO.

I'm with MARK1992, if you can afford it, I'd just give my dad the 40D. Excellent excuse for the 7D anyway...

If you can afford it, and really are going to get the 7D... then sure let him have it.

If it was anyone else, not a relative. That would be a bad trade though :)
