I'm not a huge fan of American cars but there are two I'd give my eye teeth for,, 1936 Cord and 1935 "Boattail" Auburn.

I have a mate in Australia, professional guy, never married. His run-about is a 1978 Porsche 911 Carerra,, now there's a car. Black with red leather upholstery. He also has a collection (4 last count) of 1970s Mercs.

The picture is too small for these old eyes. Is that a 30 Duesenberg SJ? That is, in my opinion, the best looking car ever built. I have seen a few in museums, and I think they are gorgeous.

Close. It's 1929 Deusenberg model J.

The height of being put down is to work hard for years and finally get yourself a new Rolls Silver Shadow, then the day you pull up to the country club in it your competitor drives up in a mint condition Deusy.

In the old days, you Brits made some nice cars: the Austin Healy 6000 (I had one), the Jaguar XKE (I wish I had one), etc.

Then the companies were abandoned or absorbed, and, well, things are different now.

I saw a Jaguar XJS yesterday. It just looked like another piece of road tin.

Isn't it funny that BMW owns Roll Royce and Volkswagan owns Bentley?

Roger, forget the XJS. In all honesty, have a close look at the XF and the latest XJ and you'll see just how good they are.
