What is this new habit of spelling 'prick' as 'p[r]ick'?

It's a fear of being politically incorrect.

After all, you can say you pricked your finger, but you can't say you fingered your prick.

Ain't English grand!

Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!
And on that note, I've a true story for you all from 6am today.

Down here, in southern Japan, we have all sorts of larger-than-life reptiles and insects. The kind of creatures nightmares are made of.
And being British, where the stag beetle is as big and "scary" as they get, I'm not exactly keen on the local bugs.

Well, this morning, Louis woke us up at 5:10am for a feed, and after that I was settling nicely into a dream.....when I felt a nasty pain.....up high on my right thigh.

But being in dream-land, my brain converted it into an image which conveyed intense pain through imagery....I think Roger was involved, but luckily, that part of the dream has now been lost.

Moments later, and I had another RED NOT pain.....higher up, and more "central". This time, there was no 'conversion' into dream-land.....oh no!

I woke with a yelp, threw off the sheets and grabbed a 'handful' to look at what the hell was causing the pain, assuming clothing had trapped a hair or two....
But no such luck.

On opening my eyes properly, there was a 2" poisonous caterpillar sinking its teeth (or whatever you want to call the evil jaws at the front!) into a part of the body us gentleman are really rather protective about.
It's the only time in my life I've physically frozen with fear.
VERY LUCKILY, my wife woke and removed said spawn-of-Satan before it could do any more damage.
Turns out, it was a baby.
The adults can slice through clothing if they feel like it. :(

Think we'll try sleeping with the windows shut tonight.........

Ricardo - how's the new ship design going?

Hey Tim, thanks for asking.

The aluminium arrived from Singapore a few days ago, (all 49 tonnes of it) and the frames are all cut. They're now ready to assemble them...it's a bit of a process folding all the flanges and welding all the bits together. In a few weeks it will all suddenly take shape. I'll post some pics when there's something to show.

Seems like just yesterday we were talking about the design. I'd love to see some pictures when you get a chance.
I was watching a TV program the other day on how they built that huge Oasis of the Seas cruise ship. Interesting how they built all the cabins and suites offsite in a factory and installed them as modules in the shipyard. Ship building has certainly changed over the last 50 years.

skygod -I think I'd have a hard time sleeping after that - even with the windows closed. :-( If that baby caterpillar was only 2 inches, how big do the adults grow?

I've been stung in my sleep by a scorpion. Not fun.

And we have poisonous Giant Desert Centipedes that grow to about 10 inches. Not something you want crawling on you.

Of course, in Japan you have all the friends of Godzilla to contend with....

Don't forget thats its just a little coastal cargo and passenger boat, Tim. And it's being built to a tight budget...she will be no elegant beauty!

As for modular construction...it certainly helps keep costs down and timescales on schedule. With computer cutting of frames and many other parts it's so much easier to make things fit if they're built off site.

I like good solid "working" boats. If I want elegant beauty then we need to talk sailing vessels. Somewhere in the 12 meter class...

Adults are only about 4" I believe, but they're nasty.
And they even climb the outside walls of tower-blocks.
When I first came here, I was warned NEVER to touch one, as the hairs inject poison directly and are agony. I'm still grateful my bite was just from a baby which hadn't developed the poison yet.

Yeah....a scorpion in the bed would, I'm sure, end up with a "Skygod shaped" hole in the wall!!!!

Posted some shots from the recent Africa trip. Just a travelogue, not fully postprocessed.

Enjoy!
