Happy Birthday, Simon.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Thanks everyone.

And indeed, I did get through the day without crying, getting into a fight with Missus Skygod (Mk3), or having an accident!

Though, I seem to have come down with a stinkin' cold.....
Ho hum.
Can't have everything, I suppose...

Regards again!

Simon

Happy Birthday Simon!

Glad to hear it was day of no adventures, this means that you are definitely aging and maturing. Birthdays flow by without fuss or big, dramatic events.

Being the Husband and Dad, soon your birthday will pass with barely a notice or a nod. Then you know you've matured.

Sucks.

Still good to hear you enjoyed this one!

Thanks Jay and Jim.

The funny thing is, that I've NEVER seen the point of celebrating one's birthday, except perhaps, to simply be grateful to still be alive.

And when I say that I've never seen the point, I really mean it.
Even for my 4th birthday, I refused to have the "happy birthday" song sung to me.

What a difficult little bugger I must've been...
Haven't improved much, either!

I'm of a similar mind, but I believe it stems from my upbringing. Our birthdays were never celebrated when I was a child.

I still vividly remember my sixth birthday. We were having a new furnace installed and I was in the basement pestering the installer with numerous questions. He commented to my mother about my curiosity and asked my age. My mom thought for a second and replied, "He's...oh wait, today is his birthday."

Obviously, it wasn't a momentus occasion to her and they've never meant much to me. However, I'm always willing to celebrate others' birthdays. People still talk about the 40th celebration I hosted for my wife more than 15 years ago (Yes, I married a younger woman:-))

Birthdays have always been weird for me. My siblings got birthday parties pretty much any year they wanted one. The only one I actually had was my 7th birthday. To this day I still have not figured out why my parents would have a party for my three siblings but not for me.

Grandma would always have birthday dinners for us. As a kid I really did not like these dinners. My mom, my cousin, and I all have the same birthday so the party was for all three of us at the same time. One cake, one candle, one dinner. Call it selfish, but I hated sharing. Everyone else got their own special day, all to themselves.

Over the years, I've had some nasty birthdays as well. Sometimes just having a single, really bad event that would ruin a person's day no matter what the day. And twice now I've ended up in the emergency room. On my 29th birthday I woke up with a horrendous inner ear infection. It was so bad that I was physically unable to remain sitting up. I would sit up and promptly fall over, my balance was completely gone. Spent several hours in emerge and left with a whole lot of drugs. Still managed to make it to the party that my friend threw for me, there was no way I was going to miss that! Last year, on my 32nd birthday, I managed to whack myself in the head with a pry bar at work and ended up in emerge again. Got a great goose egg and a concussion.

This year, my goal is to stay out of the ER.

Many more opportunities to go to the ER? I hope not!
