Greetings - Arriving at this thread late and since I am on the far side of 65, I am looking for senior citizen discounts lately. It would be nice if Canon offered them wouldn't it? I am waiting for flashbulbs to make a comeback. I loved popping them out of my Brownie Hawkeye. I gave my gripped 5D and a 24-105L to my son when his second child was born earlier this year and think I have hooked him on photography. If not, it ensures I get a steady stream of photos of the grandchildren (I have four). In Japan, we have a Respect for the Aged day, the way it should be methinks. We have a special celebration (Kanreki) when we are age 60 in which friends say wonderful things about us, even if they are not true. Nice! A monopod makes a great cane which is the reason I have said on this forum a tripod and a monopod are a forever purchase so get the best you can afford. I still work six days a week, twelve hour days and love to travel. I'll be in Seoul all week next week on business and look forward to more photographic opportunities. Check out http://kamogawa.smugmug.com/ (external link) for my latest travel photos of Japan, Korea, Singapore and more.
And yes, I wear a Canon photographer's vest and 'DB' is not a word in the Japanese language - Ha! Ha!
It would be nice if we can post some photos taken by us when we were a lot younger. I have some from the 60's and will try to dust off a few.
Cheers from Japan,
John

I'm going to ignore ALL the comments about lumpy farts, as that's just too scary to think about...

Nice addition John.
And if you feel like adding some pics of you when you were younger, feel free....I might even join in as I found a couple of shots of me when I was 2 1/2 and shot or two from my teens.
Funnily enough, I think my life now is FAR better than I imagined it could be when I still thought that "age 30" was as old as a dinosaur.
:D

I always thought that when you turned 50+ you were able to purchase the toys you wish you could have bought when you were 25...and you appreciate them much more!

Since a lot of older photographers are here, I'd thought I'd throw a question up.

Today I was working with a 50+ yo photographer (really good at his job). He chastised me for putting his camera into his bag with the lens on. Apparently you should never do that.

Is there any reason why you would want to take the lens off your camera before putting it in your bag?

Or is it "old" advice from the film days?

I like this group. I am well qualified at almost twice the age requirement and 11 grand kids. Looking forward to seeing the talent in here.

Decent Single-Malt as a regular tipple, not as a special treat
Better Camera gear
Clean credit cards (this is a biggie!)
Retirement investments
Travel much more often under better conditions.

And, probably the best of all, Silence.

I agree with Yogestee. Not only is there no reason why you should remove a lens before putting a camera in a bag, there are several reasons why you should not.

I can't even remember the last time I took my 24-70 off my 40D. It's probably been more than a year...

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

I always have the last lens I used attached to my camera(s) in my bag.. I've been doing this for as long as I can remember..
