I just knew somebody will come up with that! :-) My boss has a beautifully preserved 1987 Nissan ZX 200, and I don't think he is going to pass it on to his daughter!

My mate has never married, a lawyer with a penchant for older European cars. Did I tell you about his 1976 Mercedes 450SEL, which he calls his client taxi.

Ok, since we are on the subject! :-)

In the early 80's my co-worker's grandmother passed away and left him a 57 Chevy. The grandmother bought it in 1957 and practically never drove it. So every Friday this friend of mine used to drive it to the office, and we took this car to go out to lunch. That was our Friday entertainment! :-)

The friend soon moved to Arizona, and took the car with him. In that climate things live forever, so when I saw it almost 20 years later, it was as if it was still 1957. But then the guy moved to Hawaii, and it was too expensive to move the car with him...

In 1997 my 89 year old Grandfather decided that he was going to give up driving. That summer, Prairie Bible Institute, where my grandparents worked and my mom grew up, was having their 75th anniversary celebration. We packed up the van and drove out there (Three Hills, Alberta). My Grandfather also drove. While we drove across the Prairies, he drove through the Rocky Mountains. He lived on Vancouver Island. While there, he signed over the ownership of the car and we towed it home.

Grandpa's last road trip was from Vancouver Island, through the Rockies, to Three Hills, Alberta. At 89 years old. Alone. Driving a 1978 Ford Pinto Runabout. This car had a three speed auto transmission, no A/C, and no power brakes. I absolutely loved that car and drove it until we couldn't keep the oil from leaking out of the oil pan.

My parents adopted VW Bugs back in the '60s, so that was what I grew up driving and adopting, fun cars! Then, it was a Peugeot, a very comfortable sedan, which I ended up with for a number of years. And then, their "pet" car was the Honda Accord, they owned I think three of them and passed them on to me until the end, and I really do like those Hondas, in fact I bought one for my son a number of years ago and since mine was wrecked back in '11 that one is the household car!

A school mate of mine collects and restores Renault 4s. He currently has six, two in perfect restoration. I've asked him why,, I've never had a straight answer.

A motorcycling buddy and his brother restore older Ducatis . Last count 13 in different states of restoration in two sheds.

My favourite is a 1978 900SS, silver and blue model which I usually get to ride when I'm home.

So, I've just had a moment to log in (it said the last time was a month ago! Yikes!), and I'm very happy to see the OLDER thread is still full of wonderous-nonsense!

Keep it up, boys 'n' girls. :D

Meanwhile, over here in Japan-land, we start the prep' for the foundations of our new house TOMORROW!

It's been such a tough struggle even to get it to this stage, but we're only waiting on ONE MORE PIECE OF PAPER(!), and then the thing'll go up!

So, I'll be AWOL for a while, as I can't trust the constructor to do exactly what I want unless I'm breathing down his neck - for the next handful of months - but I'll check in, here-and-there, hopefully with some shots as it goes up!

Regards to all,

Simon

CRAP! Quiet! Someone is at home! We can't use this place to party!
This thread's been vacant for weeks, thought it would be empty!
Quick, light the bag of s**t on fire and let's run!
Not the Canon bag, you idiot! I said the bag of s**t, the Noink one!
Man, I hope we don't get caught trying to take this place over!
Come on, you run like a sports photographer that has spent too much time in the canteen tent! A few too many breakfast burritos hanging off that waistline, pal.
Hide in the bushes. let's see who actually comes to the door.
Is someone really here?
SSHHH! Quiet! Someone might really be here!

BUSTED!!:D

Nice to see some of us are still at home  Figured all the old fogies had run out of things to talk about.

Great shot of the birds! Is it spring already in NZ?

Simon's busy building a new house, I'm up to my knees (literally) in foundation repairs, touchups and associated landscaping. Old houses need a lot of attention sometimes.

Shot a cathedral wedding this summer, what a setup! Lighting was much different than the standard church/hall/backyard stuff. Dark with really bad artificial lighting.

Maybe a few more will check in and catch us up on what's going on.

Thanks Jim...great to hear that you're still busy! Me too...another project under way at present.

Yes, spring is here...plenty of daffodils and blossoms showing , and the birdies are getting restless. I suspect they have something on their minds, but I can't for the life of me remember what it might be!!:D

It's time for them to make more birdies.

Surely you know that in the spring a young kiwi's thoughts turn to love.

Oh, wait! That's right! You're no longer a young kiwi!

Ah yes, that's it! Thanks for reminding me Rog, and I've just remembered how it goes. Now, I'm out of here!! ;):D
