Street Interview

I've been working on a personal project interviewing prostitutes that work the streets of Washington, DC. I did my second interview last friday and thought I'd share a couple of the images.

Great pictures and the story is touching. Its amazing how a story can bring out the human elements of lives that you think are so far removed from your own.

Man....very nice work on the interview and the photos. How in the world do you approach something like that? That takes guts. I would be scared of the cops seeing me with a known prostitute and hard timing me....even though it isn't illegal, but just the potential hassle! Thanks for bringing something really awesome to the table!

Superb work and more importantly an excellent combination of photojournalism. Many say prostitution is a victimless crime. These same people need to spend time, as you have, with the human side of drug addiction and for some, mental illness. Great work!

lhughey- I think that's what I've taken from the project thus far... that no matter how diferent their world may be from mine their is still a basic level of connection and compasion that exits in people.

airfrogusmc- I can't wait to see how the project will look either. I'm still not totally sure how far I want to take it or what direction to go but I have some ideas and plenty of time to get it sorted out. I'll be sure to keep posting updates here.

alabama-believe me, that something that goes through my head. i guess what gets me past the fear is knowing that im not doing anything illegal and that i've got plenty of proof i can show to any police officer to backup my story... ive got the gear, past photos, business cards, and the blog to show them as evidence. but you're right, its not easy to make the initial approach and im always nervous about it.
