Just a general question as to how to save battery life on my 300D (yes i still use it, lol)

Should i turn off the the camera after a few shots or just keep it on?

i think the battery life is already pretty bad but anything to make it last longer would be helpful.

I rarely if ever turn my camera off, it shuts itself off.

Can't speak to a 300d specifically, though.

you can have your auto off set to 1 min, 2 mins or whatever, and then gently press the shutter button halfway to 'turn it on' again.

i leave my 7D on.

I know that my 350D shuts down (auto-off) by itself after a small period of inactivity. I'm not sure if that feature was also available for the 300D. For what its worth, I'm sure that the cost to replace a worn switch is not cheap.

Always leave it on and let it shut down by it's self, that way it's always ready to go and I don't have to remember to turn it on.

He said switch, not shutter.

Wont do it any harm leaving it to 'go to sleep'. With my 350D I leave it on unless I know there is going to be a long break in shooting. I've left it with the switch in the 'On' position for a few days or more and it's had no adverse effect on the battery life.

If you have the original BP-511 battery that came with the 300D, even canon realized it was to small and replaced it with a higher capacity BP-511a. You might want to look at the Sterlingtek replacements as they have almost twice the capacity at 2000mAH of the original BP-511's 1100mAH.

And for $12.00 each plus shipping they are an increadable deal.

same here with the 450D & will do the same with the 5DMk2 aswell - i just set the 'auto off' time to the shortest possible.
