Best portrait lens for my 5Dc

My first option is 135L, and second 100L macro. But i want to find out other recommendations. You can see in my signature the lenses which already have. I shot studio portrait, but also on location portrait. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The 135L is a great lens, its a bit long for the studio perhaps. The 100L is also good. I dont think you can go wrong with either. The only thing not on your list is the 85L, but you have that covered with the 85 1.8.

You got 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.8, 70-200mm f4 IS. Don't get hung up too much on the ideal lens. Other things like lighting, posing, model go a long way than the lens alone.

You have an 85. If you really are looking for another lens then get the 135. You may find you will use one a lot more than the other, the one being based on what/where/how you shoot + preferred perspective, and less to do with the fact that is one is an L and the other is not.

100L makes magic with portraits. It's definitely my go to lens for people.

I have the 85/1.8 and 135L for my 5Dc and find that 85mm and 135mm are too close together.

would also check out the new sigma 85mm...quite nice from what I've been reading.

Yes. 135 is my fave for FF. 100L can be painfully sharp at times which is not ideal for portraits, especially if the subject has less than perfect skin.

I would get the Sigma 85mm F/1.4 or Canon 85LII. If your content with the Canon 85 1.8 for the 85mm focal length then the answer is really easy.... 135L.

Studio portraits are usually shot stopped down so any prime is fine. With outdoor portraits people have a tendency to want to obscure the background by using a small dof so a large aperture is required, usually under f/2. And portraits consist of more than head and shoulder shots so are you after full or even half body shots? Any lens can be a portrait lens, it just depends on what conditions you will use it under.

See what I told you. You can do kick ass work with the lenses you already have. No need for 135mm f2 IMHO. But if you need best, for outdoors, get canon 200mm f2 IS.

I mean a portrait lens can range from 35mm to 200mm.... depends on what kind of portraits your trying to take and what your style is.

My 35mm is great for environmental, group and full body portraits. My 85mm is great for full body, head and shoulder, group and 3/4 portrait shots. A 135mm is great for head and shoulder shots, higher compression portraits for a different look, etc.

+1 People are quite gear-obsessed on this forum and will gladly recommend buying more gear. But do you really feel that you need any more lenses, or is it just that you want a forum-hyped "super portrait lens"?
