Strong composition with the leading lines. Horizon isn't straight - fix that. If you've done anything in post, the contrast between the sky and water is lacking. Might be a good candidate for B&W.

Also, top left hand corner looks like you have some dust on your sensor.

I think you should try B/W for the picture. Great composition.

Something looks off since the light source is clearly from the right yet the water and right side are all darker. I think the sky and water were burned a bit too much.

Nice colors and the person really makes this shot. The horizon looks tilted and I think the rule of thirds would make this a better image (crop out some of the sky).

My 2c IMHO:

a) Adjust the horizon.
b) Crop a portion of the bottom part. This will put the person more close to the viewer.

In any case it's a very nice pic.

Cheers

you should have swept the beach clear of all footprints but the person's before taking the picture. there should also be a dolphin jumping out of the water in the distance.

kidding, of course. I really like this. it definitely established a mood. I agree that you should maybe look to crop the bottom, but not much, because you want the space to give the sense that they're alone, not just walking right in front of you. maybe below that first footprint or where the dried seafoam/seaweed kind of ends...

Agree with both the crop and horizon comments, great potential.

Tides going out. The ole time simply isn't going to walk into that directing with it coming in.
The shoreline is gonna have that bit of lower level as it is where the water rolls when the tide is in.
The water is a bit higher as the outgoing tide crashed into the surf coming in. The beach is at a slight grade as all beaches are.
I think maybe the foreground and the distance are at different levels and that make the beach look odd.
The light is coming from the right, shows on the ole timers windbreaker. Also the sun is very low in the sky maybe not to long before sunset if not already started. The water is darker as it is full of sand with the roll of the retreating tide. That makes the water tucked in a bit not allowing any on the light to hit it. The foam and the silt at the surface above the roll is not letting much light through. The sky well it's sunset.
I've been wrong before so if the dice turned up oops, so much for my guess.

The OP does live on the east coast according to location info, in which case it could be an early morning shoot.
Ok I did a tinker on my iPad and uploaded with it also ( still learning to tame the pad around the way Steve saw fit for it's use )

That was my processing. There's kind of a raggedy vignette thing going on.

Thank you, Shooter. Yes, I understand that a crooked horizon upsets everyone but me. ;) But you're all right - it would be better straight.

I thought I did enough just wiping out the two people in the distance. ;)

Thanks for looking and the kind words.

Thanks TopHat. I think your crop satisfies all the suggestions very well. And I'm going back to rework it from scratch and that's where I'll be aiming.
Thanks to everyone for their input.

Okay here goes. I tried to follow the good advice I got merged with my own vision. I wanted to keep the moody lighting. And the horizon was really pretty straight. The surf is high and those are swells in the upper right. Not the horizon. But.... I adjusted it a degree. :)

I've not done much B&W and I THOUGHT I had a plug in but it's gone. So I messed with the channel mixer and some layer adjustments and came up with this. Have mercy.
