Ok so I have been here all year and have been too busy hiking everywhere to really do landscapes, so this is my first dedicated day for shooting landscapes sadly haha. I also took my 6-stop ND for its first real run, and I am instantly addicted. Long exposures for the win. Conditions were awful most of the day, with about an hour of sunlight in between snow storms, and the storms didn't even drop anything significant to make everything pretty. Oh well, without further ado:

Edit: Added some more shots in post #3.

1.) Hole in the ground that I don't remember the name of. I thought it was really pretty.

2.) This shot pretty much sums up the day. Snowy, gray, cold and no one else around.

3.) Grand Geyser runoff channel.

4.) This is probably the best shot I got of Grand Geyser.

5.) This is Punch Bowl Spring. I had never heard of it or seen it before today, which I find odd because I think it is easily one of the coolest looking thermal features in the park.

6.) I really liked this one despite it just being a boardwalk.

7.) Castle Geyser while the sun was still out.

8.) Castle Geyser erupting in the snow. Something a little different.

I was going to head to YNP this weekend but now I don't have to. Nah, I think I will go anyway. Just ordered a .6 graduated ND and just waiting to try it. Great pictures of an outstanding NP. Fall into winter is such a special time.

May there be peace

Nice series Chris. You're so darn lucky to work in a place like this.

Thanks! It was a little chilly but well worth it.

Thanks! I have had a total blast up here this summer. I haven't gotten near as many landscape photos as I wanted so I am going to try and get as many as I can the last two weeks I am here haha.

Very nice series. I particularly love the last image. Let's hear the story. How is it living in Yellowstone NP? My wife and I visited Yellowstone this summer and fell in love with the place. nfortunately, we couldn't stay as long as we would have liked. Let us know how life is in the great west.

Well there are some major pros and cons to up here.

Cons:
-Unless you have a trailer or RV to live in, you are put into dorms with tiny rooms not even big enough for one person, and they put 2-3 people in them. Not to mention the locks on the dormroom doors are garbage. You can break in with a credit card, as happened to me. I had my laptop stolen out of my locked room while I was off hiking. If you have a trailer or RV I would highly recommend that route.
-They serve food in a cafeteria, and the food is horrible 50% of the time. I enjoyed breakfast the most earlier in the year but I am even getting sick of that now, since they serve the same thing for breakfast every day.
-The pay is horrible, unless you get a higher-up position.
-You are 2-3 hours from Walmart or anything equivalent.

Pros:
-I LOVE the weather up here. It never got above 85 this summer and most of the time even in July and August it was around 70-75.
-I LOVE my job up here. 98% stress-free and I love my managers. I work in retail, but I have heard other departments are not nearly as chill.
-The area is obviously crazy awesome. I spent most of the summer climbing various mountains in the Greater Yellowstone area, some of which were insanely gorgeous. If you are into hiking, climbing or camping this is definitely a great spot to come. You have the Tetons, Beartooths, Madisons, Absarokas, Wind Rivers and many other mountain ranges within 5 hours of Old Faithful here. My only regret is not making it down to the Wind Rivers this year, since they are the biggest mountain range around here, making the Tetons look like child's play.
-You don't have to spend much money to live up here. If you like to hike or climb you just have to spend money driving there and maybe a little bit of food. I think in the last month (since I stopped hiking regularly) I have spent maybe $100 total, and that is just one tank of gas and paying my phone bill. I don't have many expenses so that helps.

Thanks for the details Chris. I sounds like an awesome place but living accommodations are a bit to be desired. All in all, it sounds terrific. I checked out your Flickr site and the hiking/climbing images are outstanding. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, like I said, if I had a trailer to live in I would be a happy camper since I wouldn't have to worry about theft as much. I'm sure getting your room broken into is like one in a million but it's possible. Minus that, my summer has been almost perfect up here.
