B+W KSM MRC CPL question

Hi guys,

Just want to ask a quick question to those who own the 77mm B+W KSM MRC CPL. Do you guys find that the rotating ring of the filter is loosened up a little and is rattling back and forth a very tiny little bit (maybe after extensive use?).

The rotating front ring of my regular 77mm B+W MRC CPL is sitting very tight on the base ring and does not rattle at all. But the front rotating ring of my B+W KSM MRC filter (bought used) is kinda moving a little... Is the KSM CPL I got was abused or defected? Or is this normal after many uses?

Thanks for your advice.

I have the non-KSM version of that polarizer and it has indeed loosened up.

So, the rotating front ring will rattle and not sitting tight on the base ring after some uses? Thanks.

Well, I sold nonick the filter in question. I had owned it for about 3 months and I really babied that filter because it cost so much. It was my first and only B+W polarizer and I didn't experience any rattling of the front rotating part of the filter. The last time I used it 2 days ago, the front ring rotated smoothly in either direction. The filter sat in it's protective case since that time till I sold it to him and was never dropped nor received any kind of damage/impact in any way. I don't know how it could suddenly get loose and start rattling right after I sold it. Any more experiences from long time owners would be appreciated.

Yeah mine hasn't even been used all that much and I can pull on the front rotating ring and it will separate slightly from the back ring. I guess a little metal gets worn from rotating it.

Ive owned both (brand new) and they both were exactly the same (some back and forth movement, very little) but it was good, if there was not room for some movement how would you expect to turn it around in ease. I think its normal, but we really dont know how much movement your talking about.

Thanks all for your input. Sounds like everyone expereinced some back and forth movement of the front ring. I had the KSM slim version and the currently the non KSM version and none of them showed this issue when bought new. When shooting landscape, I always mount Hi-tech adptor/ holder/ filter set to the front thread of the regular B+W MRC CPL, so weight exerted, the CPL front ring (i.e. the portion with w/glass) expereinces no issue of rattling at all.

I will try to post some pictures or maybe video later tonight to show the issue. Thanks.

Mine does the same thing, did it brand new out of the box from B&H. I even questioned it but nobody seemed to know.

I have the slim and not noticed any change in the couple of years I've had it, but not a huge amount of use.
