OK, my 24-70 is now smashed after a friend  dropped my sac, and the contact strip has been severed

I get error 01 communication and clean contact message, it won't be repaired as too expensive, is there a way to still use it manually?????

I've tried switching to MF but nothing gives.

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Oh noooo!! :( Insurance?

Have you tried taping over the contacts to cancel the err message? Might work but it is a shot in the dark...can't think of anything else.

P.S. Yes, it's going through her insurance and if they don't pay up she will replace it.

my girlfriend once asked me if I would ask her to pay for the repairs if she breaks my camera. I didn't know what to say.

And if you broke something valuable of hers, would you run, or man-up?

I wouldn't run. I would wine and dine her, give her a rose and some incredible sex, and then I would man up.

If she didn't like that, at least I would have some good last memories to take with me lol.

When you say its too expensive to repair, did you get a quote ? If the lens is still working in MF, it shouldn't be -that- bad?

Mind posting a picture of the lens ?

Honest question... how did you break the lens mount with a little bump??

Was it dropped from the first floor or something like that?

The estimated quote came back and nearly the same price as new, they said it was not worth repairing, I can't show you how it looked because I have had to super glue it together, externally it looks fine :D

A little bump?? 1m20 fall with a 24-70 on a gripped 30D will do quite a bit of damage, try it with yours and post the results

Well, the way it sounded was that you dropped it while in a bad.

1,2m with camera is more than a little bump - I agree there.
Although I'm still not sure that the mount should actually break.... I suppose it depends on what it falls - if it's stone or concrete I guess it would - something soft like carpet and I wouldn't expect it to.
