So I just had a client email me asking for an 8x10" collage with 4 photos of his freshman football player. Since I rarely work on collage work such as this, I was wondering what you all charge for the creation and printing of such a photo.

I figured I would charge him a creation fee for the collage himself + the cost of the print + shipping and handling.

What do you all think? How much do you typically sell collages for and how do you price them?

Our 8x10 collages are typically about double the price of a standard 8x10 print. Larger have essentially the same markup, but we also offer the ability to add more photos to a larger collage poster than with the 8x10.

In the case of an 8x10, they can be more than double the work effort (the primary cost differential) than a straight print, with additional color treatments and typically a logo and player's name included, but that's where the customer gets extra value too.

They're a popular product and we ask our photographers to shoot in bursts with the specific intent of having plenty of options for families to choose from to fill out collages and/or multi-print packs.

Hm thanks for the input. That helps a bit. Interesting that you run roughly double the cost. What do you run a straight 8x10 for?

Varies quite a bit depending on the economics of the event (how many photographers, support staff and infrastructure we're fielding to provide coverage, local/regional/national level of the event, exclusivity, volume purchasing discount incentives, etc.) Generally a basic, single 8x10 print ranges from $10-$25.
