I'm thinking of trading or selling my 1diii and get a 1dsmkii or 5dmkii or 5d + lens.

I'm starting to get into weddings more and portraits. sometimes shoot some college footbal. I really enjoy my 1diii, but I want to get a FF.

what do you guys think? with a 1dsmkii they say that 1diii is better in high iso situation. is it true? bec. sometimes i shoot at iso 3200 - 6400 with my 1diii and still use those images. will that be a problem with 1dsmkii? how about the 5dc? I know that 5dmkii is better in high iso.

What are you expecting to get from the larger format?

To me the 1D Mark III is the best suited of the four cameras you mentioned for what you want to shoot.

1DsII - problems at higher ISO like 6400.
5D2 - Better at high ISO, but the AF system is not ideal for sports
5D - not better than the 1DIII at anything.

For weddings and portraits get a full frame such as 5DMk2 or 1DSMk3.

For sports shooting get a 1DMk4 - 10fps.

I guess what I wanted is to try a FF body. at the same time won't loose the high iso capabilities of the 1diii.

I don't shoot alot of sports, just for fun.

Well, each of the things you mention have good points, including the fact that your 1D3 is an excellent all-around body. For high ISO performance of course the 5D2 rules and the 1Ds2 lags the bunch. The 5D Classic of course is behind the 5D2 in that regard, but for years was the camera of choice for the shooting that you mention and, at $1k used these days, allow you to get "stuff" -- I'm not sure what kind of lens you are thinking of -- is that the 70-200 f/2.8 in your sig? People are getting a lot of mileage out of the 135 f/2 with the 5DC for this type of thing.

Myself, I was able to hold on to the 5DC and at the same time acquire the 1D3 and am myself quite happy with the combo. I wouldn't want to let either go, although for most of my "active" photography the 1D3 has strengths I want to keep, but then I love the 5DC in a "creative" sense!

I think it is funny how people are fixated that only full frame is good for weddings! I have seen many a wedding shot on crop which equals or surpasses full frame...it has something to do with the user! I shoot weddings with 2 mark 3's 16-35 on one and 70-200 on the other......can't complain about any lacking features....then the next day go shoot a soccer game....go do that with your full frame!

Yeah, I think of the 1D3 as my "workhorse" -- it'll take anything I throw at it. I certainly wouldn't turn down a 5D2 (or 1Ds3), though, but I'd still prefer to have the 1D3 (or 1D4) close by.

Ouch! That lens is sweet on the 1D3!

The problem is that only the 5D2 has any potential IQ advantage over the 1D3 and it will not net you any money in a swap.

The 1Ds2 and 5D will not be acceptable to you for noise if you need to shoot at 3200 and 6400.

The IQ of the 1D3 vs the 5D classic are much equal, if you want a real up for IQ go for the 5D2. everything else the 1D3 it's just better.
