1Ds Mark II or 1D Mark III? Is it worth giving up the full frame and the higher resolution to get the newer technology in the 1D III?

Not interested in 5D II. Had a 5D and hated the AF. Have 1-series now and LOVE the AF.

Why are you asking the same question as yesterday?

The D700 is the best wedding camera at the moment IMHO. Well priced, great AF, full frame, not too heavy.

I do not own 1DsII or 1DIII but in my opinion FF is best for wedding photography.

I wasn't getting any discussion or help on the topic. I figured change the title and add a poll and I would get more response. I am not a Nikon person...I use nikon a the day job and I used to sell them at a camera store and they are just not for me. My dilemma is I have a 1ds Mark II and I am thinking of getting rid of it for a 1D III.

I think this depends on the shooting style of the photographer. I think for more photojournalist style, the 1D III would be better. For more posed formal stuff I think the 1Ds II would be better.

Problem with 1.3X crop is lens compatibility. 24-70 is almost wide enough, but not all the time, you might find yourself swapping lenses more or standing back further. Depends on the person though. That's one reason I went with D700 over the 1D4.

1.6X crop bodies have lenses made especially for them, so lens compatibility is good. Quality can be an issue though, esp with the 17-55, which while usually good let me down quite often in terms of focus accuracy. When it's good, it's great though.

rent a 1D3 for a day and see if you prefer FF or the 1.3x. I think the best way is to test it for yourself because we all prefer different things.

I have 3 bodies that I use so switching lenses is not a problem. Right now this is what I use:

1Ds II - 24-70
1D IIN - 70-200
1D II - fisheye or 50 1.8

if I switched to 1D III this is what it would look like:

1D III - 24-70
1D II N - 70-200
1D II - 17-40 (i would sell the fisheye for a UWA to compensate for the 1.3 crop)

Why would you go to a 1DIII when the 1DIV has been released? Price, I guess.

Absolutely. I would definitely if I could afford it.

Between the 2 bodies listed, I would go for the 1DMKIII.
I used to shoot a 1D3 and 1D4 and felt the 24-70 was actually fine but yeah, I would also entertain an UWA lens just to go wider.

1DMKIII also handles noise better than the 1Ds2.
