Unfortunately a friend of mine had his 28-105 fall about 6 feet, to make matters worse it had a 1diii on the back! Had it landed on the camera then things might have been OK, but it landed on the lens! That was the end of it!
He likes my 24-105 L but cannot stretch to it for a while so looking for recomendations. We have both tried the 28-135 which can be got fairly cheaply used but neither of us were impressed. I have seen good results from the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 which isn't too silly on price - any other suggestions? New or used.

what didn't you like about the 28-135? i thought the iq is just as good as the 28-105II, just a little slower. i would recommend the tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 though.

I've had both. The 28-135 isn't as sharp as the 28-105 II and the focusing is much slower.

I wish!

It's a promo pic for "The Prisoner", a cult series from the late '60s. So my guess is it's a Lotus Seven series 4 considering the date.

I know the series - used to watch it! Portmeirion, where it was filmed, still holds "Prisoner" events & holidays.
Sad ain't I:p

If you are interested in landscape photography its an excellent place to go. The village itself is an iconic location for photography and you are close to the Snowdinia mountains as well where ther are stunning views and many abandoned Slate quarries which make excellent subjects. If you have a (very) long lens with you Ospreys have been photographed fishing in the estuary by Portmeirion. This is a beautiful part of the world though not renowned for it's good weather - so be prepared!
