Looking for a new monitor - Help!

Looking to spend around $700.......I shoot in raw and use LR3 and CS3 - I want one at least 23inch. What do I look for in contrast ratio ect. ?? Is wide screen what I want? I have no idea and need some help! Thanks for your time guys! Paulie

Dell IPS, HP, or NEC are the brands to look at.

Do you edit your photos for printing? If so, consider that a typical print has a contrast ratio of less than 300:1. When you see an ad for a monitor and they are boasting that the contrast ratio is 10,000:1, you know that's a monitor better suited for video gaming than color accurate photo editing.

In your budget (in US dollars), I really like the 24" Dell U2410. It's a wide gamut monitor (I think that's what you meant), and it has a 10bit internal LUT. This means it will reproduce most of the Adobe RGB color space and it will calibrate nicely, with no visible banding in tonal gradients. It uses a color accurate IPS type LCD display panel.

Your budget leaves room for both the monitor and a good calibration device.
