Fall landscape

Hi all! I went on a hike this morning with my kids and tagged along my new to me tripod and tried my best to get a few good landscape shots. Ok i admit I had a little fun with the sliders in RAW but I am wondering if they work? What do you think? Any suggestions for future shots. Today was a rather over casted day and the sky was just more of a grey then a blue...

top one is nice, to bad you never got more lake reflection in there. bottom one seems busy.

Thanks Dave, when I came back that is when the wind started picking up. I was also hoping for that reflection... Maybe in the winter...

I like the top too, but I'd be interested to see how it looked cropped down from the top left, to cut out some of the sky, and the far left edge of the pic. (I'd say leave the two bright orange trees on the left in the pic though.

A lovely landscape. Pity about the grey skies - I've had issues with those recently - but I'd get right back out there when the sky/light is a bit more appealing.

I really like #3... yes it's busy, but it's really wild and untamed looking. I prefer #1 without the crop.

The third one is stunning, but it lacks a bit of sharpness imho...

Love it though. It looks like two photos were added together to create this fantasy feeling.

My favourite is the first but it seems to have an added hue, tint of some sort. Restoring the r,g,b to the same values in curves gives better separation and contrast and 3d effect.

Corkney, I am sorry, can you explain what you mean? I am still really new at this.

I have CS3 so I can only describe my own method. Open image, then click create a new fill or adjustment layer. Select threshold and use slider to select the last bright spot, uses shift click to select a sample then move sliderfor the last bright spot anD sample using shift click. WITH BOTH SAMPLES SELECTED, PRESS CANCEL TO THE INFO BOX. Next click on new fill or adjustment layer and select CURVES. If you look at your info box, you will have 2 rgb samples. In the curves box, where it says rgb, go down for each channel. Using your samples, adjust curve by bottom and top pont so that all bottom values are 10 and all top values are 250. DO NOT PRESS OKAY UNTIL ALL INDIVIDUAL CHANNELLS ARE AT 10 AND 250

The third photo is the strongest; I'd have taken a few steps forward to get the brushes out of the frame - it subtracts from the depth and breaks the lines being drawn down the alley of trees.
