That ViewSonic VP2365wb looks good, or does it?

I am thinking of buying a ViewSonic VP2365wb and have read many web pages, but would like to know if anyone on here uses one and would recommend it? Although it gets a passing mention in budget monitor threads on POTN, nothing is ever said about as the focus is always on the Dell and NEC models.

My interest in this particular monitor is motivated by price as in the UK it is only £197 while the ever popular Dell U2311h is £265 and the rest more than that. And as a human being (and no one can prove otherwise) I am easily swayed by psychological barriers. With 265 being nearer to 300 while 197 is in the 100s that makes it £200 cheaper (and no one can convince me otherwise).

In particular, I am hesitant over reviews saying the brightness is not very bright. But is that like saying a car cannot go over 100mph when the speed limit means you would not need to go that high anyway? (As a mathematically-literate human being I also cannot comprehend the idea that anyone would break a speed limit. Unfathomable.) If it is just as 'bright enough' as the Dell or any other monitor for normal use, and the issue is that simply that it does not go to some unnecessarily super bright extreme that you would never use anyway, then I will be okay with that.

Obviously though if it is not good enough than I would rather not waste my money on something that will make me regret it, but do not want to pay an extra 25% for little extra benefit.

Comments, bribes, criticism, bribes, irrelevant anecdotes, and bribes always welcome.
EXIF is available inside all my photos, though bribes are still recommended anyway.

Dell and NEC get much more reviews because they command more global market share. All these 23" IPS monitors source their e-IPS panels from LG, so their performance is essentially the same. You used a car analogy... What if 3 competing economy cars all used the same engine sourced from a huge Japanese manufacturer?

Regarding brightness... What value is more brightness when you'll only be lowering the Brightness level down to around 10% anyway? People spend thousands on professional level monitors because they can run at a much lower brightness (luminance) than cheap consumer level monitors.

If that ViewSonic is the best deal in your part of the world, go for it.

Well it is supposed to be the same panel in the Viewsonic, Dell, and NEC, but they do come out differently in review tests. I guess it is not just the engine you need to worry about but all the bits around it that lets it do its thing. And that is the extent of my engineering knowledge; engine, bits around it.

I totally agree with you on brightness, but not knowing how "not bright" it is I do not know if it only affects the "super bright extreme that you would never use" or whether it would be a problem. I guess no one else here has bought it though to give their impressions. Decisions.

This review easily calibrated the monitor to decent levels for photo editing use.

I saw that review, is was one of the many web pages I mentioned.

When I was searching I read a lot of 'proper' reviews, but was hoping to balance that with feedback from real users. Technical analysis from a couple of days in a lab is good, but personal experience over a prolonged period in real less-than-perfect conditions is good too. Having both is gooder... goodest?... goodful!

Anyway, the order is placed now.
