50mm f1.4 vs. New Sigma 85mm f1.4 Comparison???

I have the Canon 50mm f1.4 and even though I love the lens it is really soft wide open. I was wanting to see a comparison between the two lenses. I might sell my 50mm to help fund the new Sigma 85mm f1.4.

Can anyone with the new Sigma 85mm compare against the Canon 50mm f1.4? I want to see pictures!:)

It would be more helpful to just ask in the 85 f/1.4 lens thread. It's more targeted and the likely hood that an owner in there might also have the sigmalux and be able to do a quick comparison for you. Good luck, I don't think you could go wrong either way!

Comparisons would be... off per se. Different focal lengths will make the comparisons sketchy at best. IMO, you might as well take a look at the Sigma 85/1.4 archive and go from there. Looks to be a good performer.

Probably a misguided goal here. Are you really going to be fine just switching to a 70% longer lens if it happens to be slightly sharper at f1.4? I don't see how they are even remotely interchangeable.

I agree. I think it's better to do a Sigma 85 vs Canon 85 1.8 and/or 85 1.2 than with the 50 1.4.

I do not understand why you would ever compare the two.

I do have reasoning for this comparison. I have the canon 24-70L f2.8 and a canon 50mm f1.4. I use the 50mm for outside portraits wide open. If the Sigma 85mm is sharper wide open then I'd use that instead of the 50mm. Seems how I only use it outside 30mm in focal length between the two lenses won't make much difference to me but the sharpness would.

I have been observing the Sigma 85mm thread and it does look promising. I was just wanting a side by side comparison on sharpness of the two lenses.
