Wow!

I was there and it did'nt look that good in person.
That Photax might look long and funny, but it takes some awsome photos!

Haha.

You didn't much time to practice on that lens.

Poor Duncan swapped with my lens for his 100-400L, just as the tiger decided to get up and jump on the tree for the chunk of meat.

By request for more then.. Quickly resized a few more.

Photax 400mm Prime - I like this one, shooting through tall grass, like if I was in the wild. The soft green grass can be seen blurred in the DOF.

100-400L

Definately get a lot more usable shots with the 100-400L, only got two out of focus shots, from about 100, where it focused in the background instead of the tiger. Photax Prime is always up to myself, and with the small viewfinder in the 20D, it can be hard to get a decent focus. :(

Nice. Really like that one of the tiger. Oh, and I don't recall signing a release for that third shot in your second series :-) !

I can see why you didn't want to hand back the 100-400L :)

But for all its simplicity in build, and complexity in use, the Photax still takes great photos.

Nice Wazza... The zoo is a great place for practicing subjects! Do you have a group shot of all you "Adventurers"?

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

That daft lens really does the business. Do small children and old ladies laugh at you when they see it?

That is the lens in question.

Condyk: Yeah, I certainly had the looks. I even had Rob's 580 flash unit on for a while. If anyone has a shot of that combo, 400mm plus flash, please share with me. :)
I know someone shot it. :) Moppie?

I am sure I have that one somewhere, not a particuarly good shot though, can post it for the 'effect' though ;)

I have to agree the external flash units (I had my 420EX) were really handy in the bright sunlight to bring out the shadows in the subjects, I have some elephant shots with and without.

Funny thing is you don't really need the flash for overcast shooting, but for bright sunny days, that idea kinda messes with me
