Thank (insert deity here) for a new page. Couldn't have posted otherwise.

Not strictly a telescope, but might as well be, the 600mm f/4L with 2x extender, to give 1200mm f/8. I tried it on Mars (more or less at opposition) and Saturn. These are on 7D and reproduced here at 100%, so a severe crop.

Mars; 1/500, f/11 ISO800

And then a more sensitive exposure (couldn't go longer as these were not tracked) to show some of Saturn's brighter moons, Titan left and Rhea right. 0.3s, f/10, ISO 6400

Amazing shots on here! Here's a couple of pics from me:

Taken with a Samyang 14mm on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, the barrel distortion is really quite obvious, but it should be an easy fix once I've got lightroom :-)

And one from near Matamata in NZ -

Not sure what the two things are on the right hand side near the top - dustclouds?

They're galaxies called the Large Magellanic Cloud and Small Magellanic Cloud.
Google them for a bit more of a description.

Steve.

While camping at Jimna State Forest last week I had a go at capturing the Andromeda Galaxy just using my tripod-mounted 50D without any tracking. This is 31 x 6 second exposures with my Tamron 90mm macro lens at f/2.8 and 3200 iso, stacked using DeepSkyStacker. The galaxy was 20 degrees above the horizon, which is about as high as it gets here.

Not a great image, but I was able to pick up some detail in the spiral arms.

Cheers,
Stephen

Really nice! How do you manage to frame this shot? I have an app that tells me where those objects are but it must be pretty tricky to get them in the frame with a longer focal lenght...
