I couldn't find any file info in the EXIF so will only have to take your word for it . Even with a 50mm f/1.8 it's unbelievable with those settings .

Nope, that's about right with those settings. I usually shoot the Milky Way at f/2.8 with my Tokina 11-16, and his settings correspond fairly well to what I get, once they're scaled for focal length and exposure settings.

Gripped 7D, gripped, full-spectrum modfied T1i (500D), SX50HS, A2E film body, Tamzooka (150-600), Tamron 90mm/2.8 VC (ver 2), Tamron 18-270 VC, Canon FD 100 f/4.0 macro, Canon 24-105 f/4L,Canon EF 200 f/2.8LII, Canon 85 f/1.8, Tamron Adaptall 2 90mmf/2.5 Macro, Tokina 11-16, Canon EX-430 flash, Vivitar DF-383 flash, Astro-Tech AT6RC and Celestron NexStar 102 GT telescopes, various other semi-crappy manual lenses and stuff.

5 second shot at ISO 1600? wow, i'd like to see what your settings were for your 5 second shot with the 11-16mm.

I had a 24II + 5Diii
ISO 3200
f/5
25s

And this is what I got:

That's rather offensive Ron. You could click on the Flickr link and view the EXIF information there.

EXIF data is all on the flickr link :) on the right hand side.
Even at 5" I get slight trailing, it's a real balance act with that lens, especially getting focus!

Thanks for your kind reply , i did find it and am impressed ! Steve didn't understand my reply when i said if was unbelieveable with those settings . He didn't understand i was merely making a comment cause it is unbelieveable what cameras and lens of f/1.8 and wider are producing . It amazes me daily . I believe he's still holding a grudge from the past cause this is not the first time he refers similiar remarks towards me . As i say , thanks again for your kind reply .

Nope its an Atik 383L+mono camera so narrow band filters have been used.

I wish my 60d could take a shot like that then i wouldn't have needed to spend a few thousand on an astro camera.

That is an AWESOME shot! But I need to ask.......what is the trick to getting the moon looking so big?

It certainly is, but the answer to your question is simply focal length: 500mm + 2x extender = 1000mm. The aeroplane is further away than you might think.
