Anyone have an idea on how to get my adaptor ring for my fisheye off of the end of my lens. Its jammed on pretty tight somehow, and I cannot get it off. Im afraid I might ruin the focusing mechanism if I go too hard so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.
matt

I guess you mean a front filter mount fisheye adapter?
If so then you are right to be abit concerned as it is possible to damage the focus mechanism.
Put several drops (not spray!) of penetrating lubricant into the offending threads.
Try to get a good grip on the front of the lens so it can't turn.If there is no easy way to grip the lens front section then you might be up for a trip to the local camera repair shop

before you try to oil anything
which i don't reccomend

try the rubber band trick

wrap a rubber band around the ring..and use it to grip the ring better

go to manual focus on the lens so even if it does move, it won't be fighting the focus mechanism

what did you do?

i agree with the rubber band idea, but at hardware stores they sell heavy duty bands designed for delicate surfaces like this. you could tighten it down on the lens barrel and then just use a pair of wide mouth pliers to get the adaptor ring off.

When I used to work for borrowlenses, the rubber band trick was king. If not, then we bust out the pliers and wire cutters :D

I've used a piece of the stuff you put under throw rugs to keep them slipping on hardwood / linoleum floors. available at any wal-mart, home depot, lowes, or any hardware store. usually beige in color & looks somewhat like lace with balls it's a very grippy material.

place a piece of the material on a flat surface, hold the lens and place the stuck filter/adapter against the material and it usually comes free, just make sure you're turning the lens in the correct direction.

trick is holding the lens appropriately close to the front element so stress is not placed on the internal mechanisms.
