I loaned a 28-135 IS from my friend and used it to take this image of a Harris Hawk at a local show yesterday, I am very impressed with the performance of this lens.

I like this photo. But as mattym said, a bit of post processing could really make it stand out. I'm no expert in Photoshop so I'm always looking for practice. I didn't really do much. All I did was adjusted SHADOW/highlight, a bit of hue/SATURATION and USM. Took less than a minute. But as you said it is difficult with the small web image.
