Are CF to SDHC adapters worth it?

I shoot with a 50d and hardly if ever shoot with a fast shutter. I'm a compose and shoot kinda guy. With the much cheaper SDHC options ($15 for 8gig Class 10)
Is it worth it to switch? My laptop only has a SD card slot, so I would need to buy a card reader anyway.
