That the depth of field is the same for the following 2 setups?

T2i + 30mm @ f1.4

5Dmkii + Sigma 50mm @ f1.4

Not trying to get into a huge debate on what is better because I have no interest in full frame.

Thanks

No, incorrect. The T2i + 30mm @ f/1.4 would give the same DOF as the 5D with 50mm stopped down to about f/2.

Depends how you frame it, how far you are from the subject, etc...

But all things equal, no.

LOL, I was afraid of that.

Okay, hmm.... I don't understand why the difference in dof. Perhaps someone could explain why there is a difference at equiv. focal lengths + f stops.

nope, the full frame will have greater isolation.

canon 1dmk2* Canon XSi * Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 EX DG * Canon 17-40mm f/4L * Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 EX * Canon 50mm f/1.8 *

Because the focal lengths are not the same. The 5D is using a focal length that is roughly 1.6 times longer than the 7D to achieve the same framing.

Longer focal length at the same apeture and same subject distance = less DOF.

Equivalent focal lenth as you term it is irrelevant. DOF depends on the actual focal length.

Okay, perfect, that makes sense. Thanks for the response!

I wish no one had ever said equivalent focal length because it is just plain, 100%, totally, completely wrong... Angular coverage is what they should have used all along, then people wouldn't be confused by this stuff.

True...unfortunately, by the time this became an issue (digital age), the whole widespread usage of focal lengths had been around for a century, give or take, so it was too late to go back :p
