EXIF data should be attached to that.

I'm trying to make my photos as clear as this one.

I've been told its my AF accuracy, sharpness, etc.. When I edit the RAW image I put sharpness to 10. I asked about getting a wide angle USM but heard it wouldn't matter because the wide angle lens doesnt have far to travel while focusing.

Any suggestions?

Tha main difference that I can see is that your shot is from the shaded side.
That is always going to be a problem.
The image in the link is has the light source (the sun) coming from behind the shooter.

You caught a paint ball in mid air, that's cool. Do you cover your camera? do you get shot?

I'm by no means an expert but wouldn't the fact that the the photographer in the link is using a 1D MKII with probably an L lens and you're using a Rebel XS not be the reason theres such a huge difference in IQ and no matter how much you sharpen your shots they're never going to be that clear?

I think with better lighting/crop it would work out better.

Perfect example i think.

This photo was taken at the exact same time as this one. you can tell because of the pink ball in front of his leg.

here is another example.

I'm not trying to 'compete' with this photographer i'm just trying to match the sharpness of his photos. He uses a 70-200L and a 1D (which is probably why his photos look better than mine) I use a xs with a 17-85 kit lens.

But i'm curious if i'm doing something wrong in PP

He looks pretty sharp in #1. You might make him look a bit sharper in comparison if you didn't sharpen everything else in the shot:
