One time I replaced his login script by writing this long, elaborate one that emulated the OS system prompt, replacing all the commands and displays with my own inventions, so the system kept coming back with smart-ass remarks and responses

Several years after this I wrote a short, kind of funny story for an e-zine I worked with, about a computer at work that one day decided it just didn't want to do any work. I think I just realized that story was inspired by this joke... :D

Well instead of being a smart arse (like my earlier post) I'll add the only "puter" joke I've ever played. In College, I was in an HTML writing class and got bored (besides...this internet thing will never catch on anyways! :P) So I did the only thing I knew how to do. I set up a screensave, and gave it a password. Here's the catch. The screensaver was the "Marquee" one with an old riddle written on it: "What walks on 4 legs when young, 2 legs when middle aged, and 3 legs when old?" I then added "Answer correctly to unlock this screensaver. The correct answer has 5 characters."

That last line was the twist. See, the correct answer of course is "human." but I said "Characters," not letters!!! I put the answer in as "A Man" :D Pretty clever huh?!??! Ok, ok, I know...I'm an idiot, but that's all I got. Apparently the prof of the next class was frustrated as hell trying to unlock it. I guess he kept telling the class "who ever wrote this is an idiot!!! The answer is Human!!! I know it's Human!!!" lol. I guess the tech department eventually fixed it......

Keyboard mapping is the way to go, remap the enter key to a letter or another function key. It activitates "sort" of randomly and does not work when pushed. If they try to show you hit the other one and look at them strangely

Also back in the DOS days - there was a "utility" called "flip.com" - you'd set it up on the victim's PC and after the specified number of minutes, it'd invert their screen. We loaded it onto my team lead's PC in Autoexec one evening. Next morning, 30 min. after he got in, he was hollering for me to fix his "broken" PC. When he finally figured out what had happened, he told us that if we tried that again, he'd have us writing in COBOL. Now them's fighting words for a FORTRAN/C guru, so I warned him that if he tried, he'd never log onto his computer again. Next morning, he started it up. "Password: "

Also back in DOS days, there was another "utility" that basically popped up and asked you if you wanted to format C: Wheather you hit Y or N it ran like it was formatting you hard drive, then at the end told you it was a prank. Never used that one personally but saw it in action a couple of times. It was fun for those of us who didn't know what the hell we were doing! :D
