Whats the best option for me. I wanna buy a couple of flash to use off camera. I wanna trigger it using my 7d or 580 ex ii. Ettl is a plus. I dont really wanna keep walking back and forth if i get a manual flash but if thats the only cost effective option then i guess ill try to learn it. Only one i know is 430 ex ii. Any other option that i need to consider?

Your 7D can fire the 580EX II wirelessly and still retain ETTL and full control from the camera over flash power and other settings. It can also fire any other flash that is compatible with the Canon wireless system.

This includes the Metz 58, Sigma 530 DG Super, Nissin Di 866, and Nissin Di 622 II(not yet released). I don't think there are any other brands that are compatible right now.

The cheapest of the bunch would be the Sigma 530 Super or Nissin Di 622. (when it becomes available) Both would be about $200 new.

A used canon 430EX or 420EX would also be two cheap options. A used 430EX can go for about $200 and the 420EX for as little as $100.
