Dragonfly

Just thought I'd post up a dragonfly photo I took last summer. Wonder what you guys think, and how I could improve it.

I really like it. Amazing how thin the wings are. I'd normally say it could benefit from a slightly tigher crop but I think it works fine for this one as is. The only thing minor i could say would be the bark on the tree limb (lower left) is slightly distracting.

Nice shot! I might warm it up a little.

I cropped it slightly and warmed it up just a little. I also tried to bring some detail back into the twig, as it was a bit blown out.

Nice picture. Insects are so hard to capture... its not easy to get a shot like this.
What if you crop it so that the wings are not completely horizontal? Maybe that would make it more dynamic.
The second one looks much better but it has some over-sharpenning artifacts making the background grainy.

Ah your right, it was a quick job. Sadly I lost the original file, so that 1st picture is all i get to play with and it's a fairly tight crop so i can't mess around with the angle too much.

It is still a great shot. Try to smooth the background. Then sit back, smile, and enjoy it.

Or don't sharpen the background at all. Think about only sharpening the important parts of the image:

Good tip, I thought of that but was too lazy. Photobucket was used in the 2nd one so that could've made it worse too. I will go and re-work the photo later when I have more time.

Don't blame Photobucket. It works fine if you set it up right. PB sizing problem discussed in this thread:

The crop works well for me.

Great capture, the crop def. helps but it does seem more grainy.
