Just got an awesome deal on a 1D Mark III.This thing is sweet!
I shoot mostly portraits and glamour images.
I went to Canon website and found info on Custom functions.
But I wanted to know from others 1D Mark III users who shoot portraits what Custom functions they use.
Thanks in advance.
Eric

Also most of my work is done in the studio.

Congratulations to getting the ultimate sports and action camera for your studio shots! ;)

I'm just teasing - it will do fine for this too. I looked at your web site and found that some of your images has a style that's somehwat like this one (external link). It's not shot with the "typical" full format camera either...

I watched that video, and parts of it multiple times. Switching to the WB trick is a blessing. It takes less than 2 seconds to set an accurate WB, and you can switch it at every minor change in lighting conditions. I think that is one of my favorites.

The video was worth watching for me if for no other reason than that.

I love mine, especially coupled with either the 85L or 24-70L. For custom functions I did custom white balance settings for several of my main light/modifiers, Mola's, Octabank, Deep Octa, Elinchrom with open reflector.

Then I set my follow focus speed in the center of the diagram, I've worked it all over the place but this works best for everythng I do, which is portraits, often shot at a wide f stop with the 85L with one of the outer focus marks set on the eye closest to the camera and I am set in Al Servo when I do this.

When shooting outdoor walk around portraits where we are always moving and changing, I often turn on the Highlight Priority just in case. I'll shoot these at ISO's anywhere between L (50)and 400 ISO.

I swapped out the standard groundglass for the one that is for manual focus, it works fine for everything else including I used it a lot with the 100-400. I like it because I shoot a lot of table top still life stuff and Iike to set my focus manually.

I seldom install an SD card, only when it's going to be kind of fast and furious and I want backup. Whether I do or not, I always shoot in RAW and when I download, it's into Lightroom 3.

For Picture Styles (yes I know I'm shooting RAW but you can have LR3 set so that the default image comes up with whatever your style was and mine lately has been set at User Def 1 (custom) which is Faithful with the sharpness set at 4, I got this from some wedding shooter someone sent a link for here on the forum and it works for everything and doesn't look at all overdone.

Image review time I have set at 4 seconds.

Beep turned off
Shoot with no card is turned off

Histogram I have set on brightness

Metering is set on Evaluate and it stays there.

I shoot at 2nd curtain sync but can't remember why - it seemed important at the time.
High ISO speed noise reduction is turned off, can't beat LR3 for noise reduction.

ISO speed setting increments I have set at 1-stop, I don't want to mess around and this works for me.

Highest ISO speed setting H
Lowest setting L

Safety shift, disabled

Flash sync speed in AV mode is set to Auto

AF expansion with selected disabled
CFNIII-9 set on 3
CFNIII -10 set ib /disable

CFNIII - 12 set on 2 when focus achieved
CFNIII - 13 Brighter

CFNIII high 10 shots
low 5 shots
CFNIV - 5 #1

I saw this in LR3, but only saw settings for the standard Canon picture styles. How do you set up LR to mimic your custom picture style? Does it automatically recognize the custom style you used? I have one for Sports and would love for it to recognize those settings.

Thanks

For BIF shots, I normally expand focus point to either 2 or 6, depending on the background...example for Eagle BIF I set it to expand to 6 points because where I shoot it's open sky so no other objects to grab the focus attention. I set to focus priority and 8 fps. And, I shoot hand held about 90-95% of the time; more fluid.

Nuke, don't know if you shoot Raw or Jpeg, but check out some of Canon's downloadable picture styles here: http://www.canon.co.jp …turestyle/file/index.html (external link)

It has always automatically come up that way in LR2 and LR3 for me so maybe it's Adobe's default but somewhere I read that it's also something you can choose.
