I posted this in small flash forum with no reply.

I have been asked to cover a ceremony of someone getting promoted. They and other speakers will be speaking that night. My question it. Would it be wise to sit a flash on the floor in front on the podium to light the person. This will be in a ballroom with low ambient light. I will be shooting with a 50D Siggy 70-200 f2.8. I want to do this so that I can be in the back of the room getting each speaker with out being right in front.

Probably not a good idea. That's just me though. I wouldn't want a flash going off right in front at the podium.

I don't think on the floor would be great for the speakers, if the ceiling is white and not too high, you may be able to bounce the flash, otherwise just use it direct from the hotshoe

Ok how about two on the wing of the podium either point at ceiling or with snoots?

I think you should get two (one on either side), raised above head level and shooting downwards.

It all depends on how unobtrusive your setup is supposed to be.

Umbrellas or other modifiers would also be a plus --- not really necessary though.

Bouncing off the ceiling whilst angled towards the podium is also another really good idea. Only problems would be if the ceiling was high, you'd have a high power setting --- slowing down your recycle rates.

I think that is the option I am going to using. This always me freedom in the ceremony.
