I'm traveling to Orlando next week and I wonder if someone of the area can recommend a good photography store.

Sorry if it is not the best forum to post this question but as I'm primarily looking for a 5D classic (refurbished) I thought to ask here

thanks for any tips or comments!

There are only two trustworthy stores that I'm aware of. They are a few blocks apart. Colonial Photo and Hobby just south of Colonial (rt.50) and Mills.

Also Harmon Photo, at Orange and Virginia. Virginia intersects Mills and Colonial is southward from there.

Colonial has more to offer, but you might find a better deal on Canon stuff at Harmon.

Otherwise, anything you see on International drive advertising camera gear is likely to be a ripoff joint, purely for desperate or ignorant tourists.

By the way, where are you coming from. I see no location under your avatar.

Yup Colonial Photo and Hobby, and Harmon are the only shops around here. You will find a Ritz and stuff also.

Harmon has better prices than Colonial, but Colonial is always more helpful.

From Switzerland and looking forward the 30 degrees Celsius that the weather channel promises :)

Better hurry, we're probably going to cool down to 25 or 26 any day now.

Last I heard, Ritz isn't a Canon friendly place.

It seems that when they went through Bankruptcy they stiffed Canon so hard that Canon wants nothing to do with them.

A Ritz manager told me " it's Canon's loss ". I had to point out to him it was Ritz and his stores loss, just before I left to go pick up a 7D and Canon 100-400 IS L lens! :D

Refurbished 5D classics are becoming increasingly hard to find, even from the big retailers. I wouldn't hold my breath trying to find one at a small independent retailer.

DO NOT go to any of the "camera/camcorder" stores on International or 192! They are ALL ripoff joints. Colonial Photo & Hobby is decent. I haven't been to Harmon yet.

If you are bringing either of those two long lenses, you should be able to get some wildlife shots here. But if it's Disney you are going to--well, lots of tourists to shoot. The wildlife, other than zoo animals, are elsewhere.

Colonial Photo and Hobby does have a nice selection of canon gear and goodies. Not sure if they have much refurb stuff tho.

Thanks everybody! Much appreciated your advice. I will stick to Colonial, Hobby and Harmony as in any case I have limited time

advaitin, I go to a trade fair and some meetings (without the big lenses. No time for photography this time)... As here the refurbished market is almost non-existing I wanted to give a try over there (and with the dollar somehow lowish is double interesting).

As others said, very little at Colonial is used, none at Harmon and refurbished stuff is usually only available via NY retailers like B&H and Adorama. The used market is now Craigs List or KEH in Atlanta.
