Julian is a landscape shooter... all the enumerated above applies to him, so no reason to switch to Nikon at all

True but he is suspect to bells and whistles like the rest of us. Deep down all deny it but thier is some truth to that. At least I think

Julian you did not answer my question...

what would be the reason why a shot is not sharp at f/14 or f/11 and sharp at f/8? diffraction??

Diffraction starts at f/16 but, it depends on the lens.

The only bells and whistles I like on my 1Ds III is the LV with histogram simulation. The best tool ever made for digital cameras.

I won't be able to have AF with the 14-24. I can only MF with LV.

Isn't it also effected by sensor ( or pixel ) size. Seems I recall crops getting worse before full frames.

See canon can't screw it up and misfocus. Sounds leaps and bounds better already. :)

that's what I thought too... I actually checked the EXIFs on my photos... and seems to noticed the shots taken at f/8 with the 12-24mm is sharp but those taken at f/11 and f/14 were not.

I need to test it in the same condition. I'll try it out in a few days :D

Yup. I've shot the 14 L II before. It's plenty wide.
