For those who have the wonderful Promote Remote Control device, version 2 of the firmware is now out. The timelapse HDR function looks rather neat - must give it a go. Also, the ability to specify an HDR range starting at either the High or Low exposure point will be far better - no more guessing what the mid-exposure should be.

This Promote Control firmware update version 2.0 adds the following features from the previous official version 1.05: - High Dynamic Range Time-Lapse mode - High Dynamic Range starting exposure can now be chosen from Mid, Low or High. - Time-Lapse / HDR Time-Lapse can now have infinite number of exposures / HDR sets (subject to flash memory size and battery life). - Power button hold now cancels an active sequence, if there is any. - Modes can be switched backwards by holding Left

Promote Control Firmware Update - Windows vs. Mac

Article
Please visit the following webpage to download Promote Control firmware update application for Windows (32/64 bit compatible):

Promote Control Firmware Update Application

Note that firmware files are to be downloaded separately. You can find a list of available firmware updates by clicking the following link:

Promote Control Firmware Updates

At this time there is no separate native application for Apple Mac computers. The way of updating Promote Control firmware on a Mac computer is to use VMWare Fusion and a Windows XP installation, however, for best compatibility, using a Windows-based computer is recommended.

The actual unit operates directly with the camera and is thus independent of any PC. It is only the firmware update s/w that needs a PC (perhaps a Virtual copy of Windows will do?).

Yeah, that is what I meant. I have windows on my mac but prefer to use mac applications when I can.

There is a beta firmware update, v2.11beta, described and linked here:

Promote also wrote a Mac firmware updater, available for download at their website.

They did. It doesn't work. Consistently crashes on launch - so no firmware update for me.

OK. Slight revision. The software crashes on my MacBook Pro but works just fine on an old PowerPC.
