I agree with Michael. Lose the photography, or make it more subtle. Blatantly coming out and saying "photography" everywhere has a negative effect imo.

I liked the idea of putting an eye in the "a" and rolled with that by putting a camera lens inside.

Here's an idea:

Cheers for coming up with that. I'm not a big fan on the lens. I'd rather keep it nice and simle with text that stands out. I'm not 100% finalised on my text either.

Today, I put the business card image on my iPhone and showed some work collegues who I don't have much to do with, to see their reactions and thoughts. They liked it and were positive, but agreed the text needs some work.

It's all a case of refining and getting it right. And I thank you all for your iput. It's helping me alot.
Cheers guys.

Sorry. 8-)

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Not sure what happened, but your fonts look like crap, very pixelated. Was this made in a vector program?

Make sure you get that fixed before a trip to the printer, otherwise you'll be sorely disappointed in your new cards.

I agree, your name is good. Apparently, statistics show that small business owners do better when they have their own name as their business name. "John Smith Photography" as opposed to "Better Images" works better.

Good luck with your businbess, I hope you do very well. :)

Thanks, I'll try my best :D

Yeah, it went to crap when I downsized for on here. I've proofed it at the printers and it looks good. Just me rushing to post on here, as usual.

Just use your name, you're trying to sell yourself in this business. You want people to say Blair Whoever took my photo's and they turned out awesome!!! Then your name will get around and you'll be known. Take a look at all the greats, you can mention them in passing conversation with other photographers and they're usually known easily enough. How many times do you hear the worlds top photographers hiding behind a business name?

As for "photos by Blair" I would stay away from it, IMO it's tacky and amateur, but thats just me. Try (as said here previously) simply 'Blair' or 'Blair Whateveryournameis'. I chose 'Chris Mallet Photography' as my official business name, but a lot of the time I leave photography out just because I can. Either use your name and brand you... or, brand yourself like a corporation "GAP" "BURBERRY" "CHANEL". Simple, easy to remember, classy, timeless.

If you are truly trying to create a real business, vs. just a cool place to show your photos, you need to be looking at business regulations and laws where you live. Where I am in Ohio, they do not care about website names, just the name you register with the State I am in. And they do not allow "similar" business names without consent by the senior business. So you should really look into that before deciding on a business name, website domain, and business cards. Legal parts of business are not the fun part, but don't get the horse in front of the cart!

You also dont want to sound similar to any other business not just from a legal stand point but also for your reputation. Be original if you do go with a business name, there's nothing worse than having someone say ABC took my photos and have somebody go.... which one?

Unless someone else is in business with your name, use your name. That's not only legally easier and safer, but as has already been mentioned, this is a profession in which who you are is the most important factor to your clients. Photographic companies don't get word of mouth, photographers do.
