Greetings!

I'm pretty excited because my 550D will be delivered sometime this week. I've been wanting a DSLR for years, but my wife never saw the benefits and I already have an expensive hobby (home brewing beer) so she told me I had to just stick to our Canon VIXIA HF20. Well, she had a friend come over this weekend and she had an older Rebel and was taking pictures of our kids. When my wife saw the pictures she was amazed and told me right then and there to go out and buy a camera. So, I hit up newegg and found a promo code for an additional $100 off and the rest is history.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting back into photography. I currently have a Canon EOS Elan 7e, but to be honest, I haven't taken a photo with that in nearly a decade. I didn't like the hassle of film, don't have a good scanner, and I had a bad experience where a photo lab ruined about 20 rolls of film from a trip to Europe I took. That experience alone pretty much deflated all of my excitement I had for photography.

So, I'm feeling rejuvenated and ready to get back into it. I'm also looking forward to getting into image processing more deeply. I have always tinkered with photoshop, but usually only for basic editing tasks related to my web design stuff. I have a bunch of old photos on film that could use touching up, and some of my ruined Europe pics may be salvageable with the right tools.

There it is. That's me and why I'm here. I was up until about 3 am last night browsing the forums after a friend turned me on to the site. I'm addicted already!

Thanks, seaside. You guys are an amazing bunch. I already posted one of my problem Europe photos and got a bunch of responses on how to fix them within an hour and it looks like I'll be able to easily salvage the pictures myself with a little time. Just awesome. :)

Welcome to the forums; it's a great place indeed.

Nice to see another Michigander, as well.
We talk about Michigan-specific stuff HERE.

Welcome Marubozo.

Its amazing how liberated we are with digital. The hardest part for me was to let go and shoot more at various settings as I was always conscience of "wasting" film and the expense that came with that and now its wonderful in a digital world!
