hey guys,

Having a weird problem with my 5D mark II and also, sometimes, my 1D mark II. I'll put a card in it, and it will say "card error, change card, cannot be formatted" and then other times teh cards with work fine. I just bought 2 new 16 gb sandisk ultras..they work fine in each camera. I never never format them with the computer, and never have with any other cards. Now though, I can't switch the card i've been using in one camera, and put it back in the other. I get that error.

Same goes with my other 2gb, 4gb cards. I can get them to work SOMETIMES, but other times it just won't be recognized, and the camera will just say "busy"

Both cameras have up to date firmware...

any ideas?

since the file systems are most likely home brew (meaning they were written by Canon engineers) there is a possibility that the 2 cameras have slightly different implementations of the file system. Another factor is whether a card is formatted for fat16 or fat32. Most everything these days is fat32.

FWIW, I never had that problem when using cards with my 5D Mark II and my 1Ds Mark II.

Even cards that I haven't moved between cameras are still showing same errors. The switching was just an added bit of information for the 16gb ones
