A crop of an Eagle (BIF)

I cropped this photo to see that face up close and personal. It was late afternoon today when I shot it so I was at F 4.0 and 640 ISO 1000 sec trying to let in some light and gain speed. The original photo before the crop had the tip of the wing clipped too. That happens when they fly right over your head and you're wheeling a 600mm around.
The face is almost the only thing in focus, but I thought it was well detailed for the low light and movement.

I know what you mean about trying to wheel around a 600. That lens is a beast. I've gone out twice shooting eagles with that lens and found it very hard to find the birds in the viewfinder when they are close to you.

I was warned about that before I bought, but somehow thought I would do better! LOL

Great shot, Will, that face is really right there, terrific shot! Do you routinely use the 600 with no tripod to shoot BIFs? I'm currently deliberating between a 500 and a 600 and have seen so many comments about the 600 just being too heavy to carry around and aim properly.

When I said wheeling it around, I meant on a tripod. Mine is a non-is and weighs 14 lbs. You're not hand holding that lens. I have done it for two or three shots, but it's a beast. The 500 IS is much lighter 7.5-8.0 lbs. and I see guys hand hold them, but most use at least a mono pod. My walk around lens is a canon 400 5.6 L.
