Hello All!

First of I am just hobbyist and After 4 years with a Rebel I got an itch to move to a full frame Dlsr. When I was shooting with the rebel my only tool for editing and viewing was a 15 inch Macbook Pro. It was okay but when editing, opening, raw files using DPP it was fairly slow and not snappy but I am not complaining, i just got use to it... Now I am anticipating the arrival of my 5d2 and was wondering if I should upgrade to an up to par computer system. Please no PC vs Apple friends.... I am considering the apple imac 21 inch , would that be a worthy replacement? Most likely I will be selling my ef-s 17-55 2.8 IS
and ef-s 10-22 3.5 to fund the purchase... just need opinions if i am doing the right move.

thanks !

Depends on whether you want a desktop, or another laptop. Either way, get one with either an i5 or i7 processor and load it with ram and hd capacity for those big 5DmkII files.

What software do you use? If Aperture and/or Pixelmator, then you should get an i7 iMac since those apps support hyperthreading. Adobe's apps do not, so an i5 would be just as well.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I see. I have been using the software bundle that came on my rebel. But I sure will take your word for it. I could just get a 21.5 imac and use the extra on beefing up ram and get the proccessor youve mentioned and should be good. It will be as good or better than the 27 inch they have, will visit an apple store later :) just window shoppping however for now...

thanks!

When you say 'no PC vs Mac' do you mean 'NO PC'S!' or 'Don't argue about PCvsMac'
Just checking 'cause there's some lovely Win7 laptops out there recently.

If you're intending to stick to OSX (no problem with me :p ) then I'd probably get the i5 iMac but if you can stretch then the i7 would be ideal.
Or you could always get an i7 MBP.

Just don't upgrade via Apple. All OEM's put a surcharge on upgrade parts. OWC typically has good prices and you can trade in your old RAM for added discounts. And get the biggest HDD you can afford, since upgrading it down the road will cost $50-$90 depending on who you go with to do it.
